18 months old....

We have a one and a half year old?!?! It is just crazy how fast time is flying by. I changed Kane's picture the other night from when he was 12 months old to one where he is about 17 months old and even in just a 5 month span he looks SO different...taller, more hair. He's growing like crazy and is learning so much!
At his 18 month checkup he was between the 75th and 90th percentile for his height and between the 50th and 75th percentile for his weight. I definitely have noticed that he's getting taller as some of his pants are beginning to be too short. He's a fairly good eater still, but can be picky at times. He loves cheese, hot dogs and fruit. Veggies aren't his favorite but we're working on it. I'm happy to say that he loves to drink milk as well, since mom and dad aren't very good examples for him with that.
He is still very active and rarely sits still, except when he's watching Elmo. He LOVES Elmo! He is a little ham and is constantly making us laugh. He's learning a lot at daycare, especially in the word department. He has started to string together sentences, even though at times we have no idea what he's saying. He also uses sign language for "more", "all done" and "please".
We took Kane to visit Santa last weekend and that did not go very well. I can't say I was surprised either. He was OK when we were standing in line, waving and saying Hi, but once he got to Santa's lap it was immediate tears! We are excited to celebrate Christmas next weekend and to see all of our families. It will be fun to see Kane's reaction to some of his gifts. We will be sure to post pictures from our celebrations.
Anyway, just a little update with some pictures and videos for you to enjoy!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!!

I'm sure he'll love this picture in about 16 years

Wait a minute Aunt Claire, who the heck is this guy???

We've got SNOW!!!!

Thankfully I drove home Friday night and listened to my wife's suggestion. We woke up and it was raining, after our Walmart trip we walked outside to the snow. We also put up the Xmas tree while the Kaner was sleeping and he woke up to the "pretty" as he calls it. Below are some snaps and videos of our day. Enjoy!

Our stockings...notice the little one for the dog, found out Kane is not allergic so she stays.

Lauren is awesome at untangling lights!

Where are you going daddy??

I will wake you up tonight!!!

Dad, why are you having way more fun than me??

And so it begins....

17 months old

For some reason I thought I had more recent pictures, but I guess since we are constantly chasing Kane around we hardly have any time to take pictures! Either that or we try to snap them with our phones instead. We also have been trying to catch some more video of our little goofball and hope to have them up at some point. But for now, enjoy some pictures from Halloween!

Mommy was a blue crayon when she was my age
(but I enjoyed it a lot more than she did!)

Going to Natalie's house

Kane got mad when he couldn't pick up this pumpkin

But then he found the candy....

14 months old

I'm a little bit behind on this post because our little man keeps us on our toes! He is constantly on the move, only stopping to eat, drink or throw something. Our living room full of toys is apparently very boring, he always wants to go outside (don't say that word around him, or be prepared!) or anywhere else BUT the living room! He has quite the personality and will let us know right away when he is not a fan of something. He LOVES his puppy Roxy, especially throwing all of his food at her. I decided to buy her some Weight Control dog food since she's frequently eating Kane's meals instead of her own.
Kane has been staying fairly healthy throughout the summer aside from the ongoing ear infections but hopefully that will all be resolved tomorrow when he gets tubes in his ears. We will keep you all posted on how that goes. Mom and Dad aren't nervous yet, but I'm sure we will be come 7am! We have heard from many people that it will help tremendously. The Dr even said he may become louder....FANTASTIC! (He already has quite a high pitched scream...I listened to it about halfway through our drive from Des Moines to Carroll the other day!). To say the boy doesn't like being in his car seat for too long is an understatement!
Besides being an active little thing, Kane is still a little chatterbox. He is learning more words and even a few signs (all done and more). He can point to a few body parts when asked (ears, nose, tummy, belly button) and of course still loves BALLS. He kicks them, throws them, attempts to hit them with his golf clubs and especially likes watching them roll down the stairs.
He definitely keeps us entertained and is such a little comedian. We can't imagine life without him! Here are some pictures of our little stinker........
P.S. We took Kane to the Iowa State Fair this year. He loved watching all the people (the best part of the fair!) but didn't really care much for the animals. When a sheep decided to start chewing on his stroller he started crying! However, he wasn't scared of the giant Herky! What a good little Hawkeye! =)

Watching my favorite show Wipeout with Dad
(this is the only show he will sit still for...weird, I know!)

He LOVES sweet corn!

DAAAAAAAAD!

SO COOL!

I'm not so sure about this fair thing...

But I do love this tenderloin!

John Deere hat

Go Hawks!

I would not touch that thing!

Look what I figured out...

...and apparently they never grow out of it!

I went to at the fair and I just happened to catch the guy in the orange in the act!)

Fun with sour kraut!

I'm ONE!!! (Sorry this is so late!)

***Warning! Lots of Pictures!***

Yes this is about 10 days late, but try to cut me a little slack...we've been chasing after a one year old! YIKES! He's one already?!?! That went WAY too fast! Kane has not slowed down at all and we don't expect him to anytime soon. Now that he has pretty much perfected walking, he is attempting to run and even climb on things. He's had is fair share of bumps and scrapes but I'm sure they are just the first few of many to come over the years with this active little boy. Also no surprise that he is just a tad bit clumsy with the parents he has! Dad is just a little bit injury prone and Mom is not known for her gracefulness!
We all had a blast at Kane's 1st Birthday party. The weather ended up being perfect that day so we could all be outside for a while. Kane wasn't too sure about the cake at first but once he tasted it he dug right in! He really wanted nothing to do with opening presents (doesn't like to sit in one spot for more than 30 seconds!), but he did get some really fun stuff! Thank you to everyone that came to help Kane celebrate! We really appreciate you all coming and hope everyone had fun. There are some pictures below of the big day....
Unfortunately the day after Kane's party we noticed that he kept getting some eye boogers and on Monday morning his right eye was crusted/gooped shut (yes, these are the proper medical terms to use!). We couldn't take him to daycare so Cory took him in and it turned out that he had an eye infection and pink eye! UGH! Poor kid! He looked bad but you couldn't even tell that he was sick because he was as happy as usual. He's all better now though! We had to put off his 1 year checkup until next Monday because of the antibiotics and his Dr is busy until then, so I will post his stats after that.
Kane is quite the chatterbox now. He says, Uh Oh and Bye Bye really well. He'll drop things on purpose just to say Uh Oh and says Bye Bye the second we pick him up from daycare. He is doing really well at daycare too. They moved him up to the next room since he is getting more active and can do more of the activities. Sometimes I think he's too smart for his own good! He picks up the remote and points it at the TV, he picks up our phones (or anything with buttons) and holds them up to his ear and says Hi or Hello (sort of). He knows Acky and No but doesn't always listen to them, usually getting into something that he's not supposed to. And of course he knows Night Night.
He definitely loves to be outside, which is good that he got over his fear of grass! Now we just need to work on the water. He likes playing in the water with his hands but isn't too sure about being all the way in. We have a little pool set up in the backyard and we have been to city pool once. We have also been to one hotel pool and the pond. He'll get used to it eventually. He definitely loves his baths though!
Kane has 4 teeth now and eats pretty much anything! He'd rather eat what we are eating so sometimes it's a battle if he can't have it but we have learned how to distract him with other foods that he likes. He LOVES Goldfish crackers and he's a good water drinker but he's being kind of stubborn with the milk right now.
It has been one amazing year and we are so blessed to have this little guy in our lives. We are excited to continue watching him grow and become a little man. He's such a lover and has the best smile! Here are some pictures for the rest of you to enjoy until next time.....(note: Some of the pictures are a little older, from before his party and some are after).
P.S. Cory will be posting some videos soon!!!

The Cake! (Thanks Kim!!!)
